When you think you might be pregnant, it can be an emotional experience. This is especially true when you weren’t expecting to be a mother just yet. At Turlock Pregnancy and Health Center, we offer free and confidential pregnancy testing to women facing unplanned pregnancies.
How does a pregnancy test work?
Pregnancy tests work by detecting the presence of hCG in a provided urine sample. hCG is the hormone associated with pregnancy and levels increase as you progress further into your pregnancy. During your appointment, you will be asked to provide a urine sample. After that, one of our registered nurses will take that sample and administer our lab-quality pregnancy test. It only takes a couple of minutes and you should have your results during your appointment.
Home Pregnancy Tests
If you took a pregnancy test at home and still want a lab-quality test, we offer them at Turlock Pregnancy and Health Center.
Home pregnancy tests have improved over the years, but we always suggest coming in to be tested at our center. Factors, such as taking the test too early in the pregnancy or improperly administering the test, may lead to a false result. When you are tested at Turlock Pregnancy and Health Center, our medical staff can help advise you on the best time to take a pregnancy test so you can be sure that it is being administered correctly.
My test is positive. What should I do next?
After a positive pregnancy test, you should confirm your pregnancy with an ultrasound. Ultrasounds verify your positive test and give you valuable information for your decision-making process. At Turlock Pregnancy and Health Center, we offer ultrasounds at no cost to women with a positive pregnancy test.
